Food waste drop-off points are now set up every Wednesday and Saturday, from 9 AM to 12 PM, at high-footfall locations on the grounds of Brownsville Houses, Brooklyn, NY. In addition to dropping off food waste, residents wishing to newly join the food waste composting scheme can also sign up.
Once the collections are complete, teams from project partner Green City Force will bring the food waste from Brownsville Houses residents to the EcoRich’s ER-500 composter, our 500 pounds-per-day aerobic digester, which will transform it into a nutrient-rich soil-amendment in just 24 hours.
The Zero Waste Challenge was developed through a collaboration among NYC government agencies, academic institutions, and with anchor partner the Brownsville Community Justice Center to ensure that technology-enabled civic innovations are responsive to community needs.
